Mt Pennell serves as the focal point of this high-desert landscape within the Henry Mountains, an area characterized by dramatic elevation changes and a complex network of seasonal drainages. The hydrology of the region is defined by the branching systems of Bullfrog Cr, including its N Fork Bullfrog Cr and the distinctively named Turn of Bullfrog bend. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the terrain flattens onto No Man Mesa before dropping into the Pennell Creek Roughs. This 2017 survey illustrates the intricate natural geography of Garfield County, tracing deep incisions like Dark Canyon and Scratch Canyon alongside prominent landforms like Bulldog Ridge and The Horn. Isolated water sources such as Gibbons Springs provide critical markers in an otherwise arid environment defined by ridges and deep canyons.
