Mt Rae and the high ridges of the Absaroka Range dominate this landscape within the Gallatin National Forest. The drainage of the West Boulder River carves through the terrain, fed by high-elevation water sources including Horseshoe Lake, Redfield Lake, and the Lost Lakes. These waters flow past West Boulder Meadows and under the high West Boulder Divide, illustrating the complex hydrology of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.
