The high peaks of the Whitefish Range define this 1966 survey, spanning the boundary between Lincoln and Flathead Counties. This mountain landscape is dominated by high summits and deep drainage basins, including the headwaters of the Stillwater River and the North Fork Stillwater River. Significant elevations are marked by Mount Thompson-Seton, Mount Young, and Mount Locke, which features the Locke Lookout station. A network of Pack Trails provides the primary means of navigating the wilderness between the Kootenai National Forest and Flathead National Forest. Small alpine water bodies like Huntsberger Lake, Whale Lake, and Bruin Lake sit in glacial cirques, feeding numerous named creeks such as Whale Creek and Yakinikak Creek that carve through the steep topography.
