The Adirondack wilderness around Mt Tom is defined by a dense network of high-elevation water bodies and drainage systems. The landscape transitions from the peaks of Seventh Lake Mtn and Mitchell Ponds Mtn down into the unique flat expanse known as The Plains. This area serves as a significant drainage basin, where the South Branch Moose River and Otter Brook collect from numerous remote ponds like Helldiver Pond, Icehouse Pond, and the Mitchell Ponds.
