Mount Washburn and the surrounding high-country peaks define this northern section of the park at the start of the second decade of the 2000s. The geography is marked by hydrothermal activity and steep drainage basins, notably the Washburn Hot Springs south of the main peak and the deep canyon of the Yellowstone River as it passes through Sevenmile Hole. Access to these elevations is facilitated by the winding route of Chittenden Rd and the through-traffic along Grand Loop Rd, which traverses Dunraven Pass.
