About this map

Allegheny National Forest spans much of this Pennsylvania landscape, where a dense network of industrial railways once powered the region’s timber and mineral economies. During the mid-1930s, the Baltimore and Ohio RR and Erie RR converged at Mt Jewett, a critical junction high above the river valleys. Smaller settlements like Hutchins, Freeman, and Kanesholm follow these rail corridors, while the Clarion River and its West Branch define the southern drainage toward Wilcox and Johnsonburg.
