Mt Pleasant and the surrounding rural landscape in Union and Johnson counties are defined by the intricate winding of the Cache River and its numerous tributaries. Surveyed in the mid-1960s, this area reflects a deeply rooted agrarian and spiritual community, evidenced by the high concentration of family and community burial grounds such as Goddard Cem, Mt Zion Cem, and Friendship Ch Cem. Small congregations at New Hope Ch and the Church of God anchored these scattered settlements.
