Fisher Valley and the surrounding high plateau country of the La Sal Mountains dominate this mid-century topographic study. The landscape is defined by the sharp verticality of the Fisher Mesa and Beaver Mesa rimrocks, which drop away into the canyon systems of Mesa Creek and Granite Creek. In the northern portion of the quadrangle, the Colorado River cuts through the red-rock terrain, while the eastern reaches of the Manti-La Sal National Forest cover the higher elevations.

Remote industrial and agricultural activity is evident through the marking of several Mines on Polar Mesa and a solitary Grain Storage Tank located near the valley floor. The map traces the rugged path of unimproved roads and trails that provided access to these high-altitude sites, reflecting the mid-1950s infrastructure of this sparsely populated corner of Grand County before modern developments reached the interior of the mesas.
