Thousand Palms Oasis and a string of desert springs define the rugged break between the Indio Hills and the expanding Coachella Valley. This survey, originally conducted in the late 1950s with updates into the early 1970s, captures the transition of the desert floor into an irrigated agricultural and recreational landscape. The Coachella Canal feeds this growth, visible near Myoma and the Bermuda Dunes Airport. In the north, the terrain is dominated by deep cuts like Thousand Palms Canyon and Pushawalla Canyon, while the southern valley floor shows the emergence of a suburban grid with Chase School and a Golf Course serving the nascent communities. Transportation is anchored by the Southern Pacific railroad, including the Thousand Palms - Dry Camp Siding.
