The Wabash River corridor north of Terre Haute is defined by a landscape of industrial history and academic tradition. The campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College stands out in the southwest, situated near Saint Marys Lake and the settlement of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. The map documents the persistent marks of the coal industry, notably at the Syndicate mine site and the water-filled voids of the Pine Ridge Mine Pond and Grant Mine Pond.
