Lake Superior dominates the northern reaches of this coastal survey, where the deep waters of the Great Lakes meet the shoreline of the Upper Peninsula. Along the southern edge of the sheet, the terrain rises into the Ottawa National Forest, a landscape defined by significant elevation changes and the drainages of the Lake Superior watershed. The namesake Nighthawk Cr flows through the dense forest towards the lake, while Jarvi Rd provides one of the few managed access points into this heavily wooded area. This 2014 record captures the preservation of the Gogebic County wilderness, showing the intersection of federal forest lands and the vast expanse of the northern Michigan coastline.
