Nimrod Dam anchors this central Arkansas landscape, where the waters of the South Fourche LaFave River are impounded to form Nimrod Lake. Situated along the boundary of Yell and Perry Counties, the area is defined by the high ridges of the Ouachita National Forest, including Ola Mtn and Chinquapin Mtn. The small settlement of Fourche Junction sits at a critical crossroads where highway routes navigate the gap known as The Narrows. Local history is preserved at the Carter Cem and Carter Chapel, situated near the northwestern shores of the lake. The terrain is deeply dissected by numerous creeks, such as Carden Cr and Big Cove Cr, which flow from the steep slopes of Fourche Mtn and Cove Mtn.
