Petrified Forest National Park occupies the western portion of this high-desert landscape in Apache County, where the terrain is defined by dry washes and seasonal water catchments. The drainage system of Ninemile Wash and Milky Wash cuts through the arid soil, leading toward the prominent Puerco Ridge that divides the southern half of the quadrangle. Local ranching or livestock management is suggested by the presence of isolated water sources like Rock Tank, Reese Tank, and Red Lake, which are essential features in this parched environment.
