Old Station serves as the central hub of this 2015 topographic study within the Lassen National Forest. The landscape is defined by volcanic features and significant relief, ranging from the flat expanses of McElroy Flat and Plum Valley to the prominent volcanic cones of Potato Butte and Little Potato Butte. The water network is anchored by Hat Creek, which flows past the settlement and is supported by local water sources like Big Spring and Baker Spring.
