Optima serves as the primary center of activity in this portion of the Oklahoma Panhandle, where the C R I and P Railroad cuts a diagonal path alongside U.S. Highway 54. The landscape is defined by the section-line road grid characteristic of the High Plains, with smaller agricultural hubs like Panoma and Midway dotting the northern reaches of the survey. The intermittent drainage of Pony Cr meanders through the central and southern terrain, providing a natural break in the otherwise geometric layout of county routes such as CO Hwy-28 and CO Hwy-19. Within the town site of Optima, a more concentrated street plan is visible, including Indianna St, 3rd St, and 5th St, reflecting the town's historical development as a rail-side settlement in the early twenty-first century.
