The confluence of the Missouri River and the Judith River forms the geographic heart of this central Montana landscape, where the boundary between Chouteau and Fergus counties follows the winding water. The P N Ranch sits prominently on the eastern bank of the Judith, just south of where it meets the Missouri near PN Island. This area is characterized by dramatic elevation shifts from river bottomlands to high plateaus, including Eightmile Bench and Missouri Bench.
