The confluence of the Judith River and the Missouri River anchor this topographic study, where the riverbeds cut deep through the high plains of Central Montana. This landscape is dominated by the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument, a region defined by its sharp elevation changes and significant benches. Extensive level areas like Eightmile Bench, Missouri Bench, and Evers Bench provide a stark contrast to the dramatic depressions of The Big Sag and The Little Sag. The Missouri Wild and Scenic River corridor winds through the north, passing Deadman Rapids and the prominent PN Island. This area, marking the boundary between Chouteau and Fergus Counties, remains largely defined by its natural water features and named topographic landmarks such as Clagget Hill and The Peak, reflecting the remote ranching character of the territory.
