Pajarita Mtn and the northern reaches of the Sacramento Mountains define this high-altitude landscape in Otero County. The terrain is deeply incised by a network of drainage systems, including Pajarita Canyon, Yellow Canyon, and Turkey Canyon, which draw water toward the east. Human presence is sparse and largely focused on livestock and transit, as evidenced by Cow Camp Number 1 and a series of water management features such as Rock House Tank, Augustine Tank, and Rock Spring.
