Higher ground is identified by family-named landmarks such as Oglesby Hill, Russell Hill, and Nickel Ridge. Aviation plays a central role in this corridor, which contains the Owensboro-Daviess County Airport, Miles Airport, and Goode Airpark. Smaller settlements like Moseleyville, Rome, and Handyville serve as local hubs for the surrounding farms and wooded tracts. To the west, the Windy Hollow Lakes and the rise of Zion Hill offer a shift in terrain away from the river-fed plains of the eastern portion of the sheet.
