Phantom Banks defines the lower southeastern corner of New Mexico in Eddy County, straddling the state line with Texas in a landscape shaped by intermittent water and ranching infrastructure. The arid terrain is marked by seasonal drainage patterns including Brushy Draw and Tucker Draw, which cut through the open country. Ranching operations are centered around Steeple Ranch, supported by a vital network of water catchments such as Big Seep Tank, Cockleberry Tank, and Lone Tree Tank.
