The international border between the United States and Canada defines the northern edge of this wilderness landscape, following the waters of Mountain Lake and Pemmican Lake. Situated within the Superior National Forest in Cook County, the area is characterized by an extensive network of glacial lakes and high ridges. Significant elevations such as Moose Mountain tower over a series of long, narrow water bodies including West Pike Lake, East Pike Lake, and the expansive Pine Lake.
