Gunflint Camp and the upper reaches of the Brule River dominate this landscape of the Boundary Waters region in northeastern Minnesota. The area is characterized by a dense network of inland lakes and waterways, including Assinika Lake, Stony Lake, and the sprawling South Brule River. These water bodies are connected by smaller tributaries such as Swamper Creek and Junco Creek, which flow through the forested terrain surrounding Pine Mountain.
