Volcanic topography and riparian systems define this portion of the Deschutes National Forest in central Oregon. A series of distinctive cinder cones and peaks, including Pistol Butte, Klak Butte, Lolo Butte, and Wake Butte, rise above the surrounding terrain of the Cascade Range. These geological features provide a striking contrast to the low-lying wetlands and waterways to the south, where the Deschutes River and Fall River carve through the landscape.
