Deschutes National Forest encompasses the volcanic peaks and winding waterways of this high-desert landscape in the early 2020s. A series of prominent cinder cones, including Pistol Butte, Sitkum Butte, Wake Butte, and Bates Butte, define the local topography of the Cascade Range. These geological features sit north of the complex river systems where the Fall River meets the Deschutes River.
