About this map

Plainfield serves as the central settlement of this northern Iowa landscape, situated along the border of Butler and Bremer Counties. The town is neatly organized around Division St and Main St, while the surrounding countryside is defined by a dense grid of rural roads and fertile bottomlands. Water shapes the movement through this terrain, with the Cedar River meandering through the eastern portion of the quadrangle and the Shell Rock River cutting across the southwestern corner. Local heritage is preserved in several small burial grounds scattered across the townships, including Willow Lawn Cem near the town center, Antioch Cem to the south, and Pleasant Valley Cem to the west. These sites, along with smaller tributaries like Beaver Cr and Curry Cr, provide a detailed record of the agrarian community and its environment.
