Platoro sits at the northern end of this high-altitude landscape, where the Conejos River and its numerous tributaries feed the large Platoro Reservoir. The terrain is defined by dramatic peaks and deep canyons within the Rio Grande National Forest, including Conejos Peak and Mammoth Mtn. This 2016 survey documents a dense network of backcountry trails that facilitate movement through the steep gulches and high passes, such as the Saddle Creek Trail and Stunner Pass.
