2023 Map of Point Isabelle

USGS Topo · Published 2023

About this map

Point Isabelle juts into the cold waters of Lake Superior along the southern coastline of the Keweenaw Peninsula. This coastal landscape is defined by the transition from the forested interior to the irregular shorelines of Bete Grise Bay and Oliver Bay. Modern access to the shoreline is provided by Gay Rd and Montgomery Point Rd, which trace the edge of the wetlands and higher ground overlooking the lake. To the north, the outlet of Lac La Belle meets the bay, marking a critical point of connection between the inland water bodies and the open lake. The map illustrates the sparsely populated nature of this northern Michigan territory, where the public land survey grid sections of T57N R29W and T58N R29W organize a landscape mostly untouched by dense settlement.
