San Rafael Desert dominates this arid landscape at the boundary of Wayne County, characterized by a complex system of drainage and erosion. The terrain transitions from the elevated Texas Hill in the north to the deeply incised drainage of North Fork Robbers Roost Canyon in the south, a name evocative of the region's historical reputation for isolation. The few human imprints on the land are sparse, notably the Blackburn Wash Rd which traverses the lower sections of the sheet. Landmark features such as Point of Rocks provide orientation within the desert, while seasonal watercourses like Buck Canyon, White Roost Canyon, and Pasture Canyon illustrate the primary geological forces shaping the Emery County wilderness.
