The Guadalupe Oil Field dominates the northeastern corner of this coastal landscape, where industrial extraction meets the natural boundary of the Santa Maria River. This stretch of the California coast is defined by its dramatic geological transitions, from the Santa Maria Valley down to the massive Mussel Rock Dunes. The shoreline itself is a jagged collection of landmarks, including the prominent headland at Point Sal and the elevated Point Sal Ridge.
