The Tushar Mountains dominate this high-elevation landscape within the Fishlake National Forest, where steep canyons and ridges define the eastern edge of Beaver County. The terrain is a complex network of drainages and hollows, including Twitchell Canyon and the prominent Pole Mtn. Water management is evident along the western foothills, where the Manderfield Ditch and the Old Manderfield Ditch parallel the mountain front to redirect seasonal runoff. This area is heavily crisscrossed by a historical network of pack trails and forest paths, such as the Whittwer Hill Trl and the Cove Creek - Indian Creek Trl, which connect the high peaks of Tanner Mtn to the surrounding valleys. Numerous named water sources like Drag Hollow Spring and Bell Spring indicate the critical locations of water in this arid mountain environment.
