Korovin Island dominates this maritime landscape within the Shumagin Islands archipelago of the Aleutians East Borough. The island is defined by dramatic coastal indentations, most notably Grosvold Bay on its northeastern shore and the expansive Korovin Bay to the south. These waters, part of the larger North Pacific environment, are separated from neighboring landmasses by the deep passages of Unga Strait and Korovin Strait.
