Sitgreaves National Forest covers much of this high-altitude landscape atop the Mogollon Plateau, where the terrain is defined by deep, winding drainages and essential water-catchment structures. The southern reaches of the map feature the historic Heber Mormon Crossing where trails meet the headwaters of Purcell Draw and Doze Canyon. This network of draws and canyons, including the prominent Chevelon Canyon and Wildcat Canyon, illustrates the complex hydrology required for ranching and travel in this arid region.
