Pottersdale sits at the intersection of several mountain roads in this heavily dissected portion of the Allegheny Plateau. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the West Branch Susquehanna River, which forms a deep valley at the southern edge of the survey. Higher elevations are marked by numerous named drainages such as Birch Island Run and Lower Three Runs, which have carved out hollows like Panther Hollow.
