Ponder and Poynor serve as the primary hubs in this corner of Ripley County, where the Ozark foothills begin to level out toward the Arkansas border. The drainage network is complex, defined by the many branches of the Fourche Creek system, including the N Fork Fourche Cr and E Fork Fourche Cr. This hydrology dictated the placement of small communities like Leibig and Burr, as well as numerous family and community burial grounds that provide a deep genealogical record for the area.
