Prewitt and Baca Siding sit at the intersection of the high desert and the iron rails, situated along the northern corridor where the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad parallels the modern highway. This mid-1990s landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the industrial utility of the El Paso Natural Gas Pipeline to the recreation and natural preservation of the Cibola National Forest.

South of the rail line, the terrain rises sharply toward the expansive Salitre Mesa, a high plateau incised by seasonal watercourses like Reynolds Draw and Blackjack Arroyo. To the west, Bluewater State Park surrounds the waters of Bluewater Lake, which is fed by Bluewater Creek. Traces of industry are evident in the Sandpits and various Quarries dotting the landscape, while the Main Ditch suggests a history of water management in this arid environment.
