The Pyramid Hills and the adjacent Kettleman Plain dominate this landscape along the border of Kings and Kern Counties. Situated on the western edge of the San Joaquin Valley, the topography is defined by the sharp rise of Reef Ridge and the Diablo Range, creating a series of enclosed valleys and drainage corridors. These natural features, including Sunflower Valley and Sulphur Spring Canyon, have long dictated the movement of travel and livestock through the region.
