Buffalo Gap National Grassland and Badlands National Park meet in this portion of South Dakota, where the elevated plateaus of Quinn Table and Seventyone Table dominate the southern landscape. The terrain is defined by the sharp transition between these level tables and the deeply eroded draws and creek beds that feed into the Cheyenne River to the west. This river system, along with its tributaries like Sage Cr and S Fork Crooked Cr, has carved a complex network of canyons and ridges typical of the region's unique geology.
