The Raquette River carves through the southern landscape of this region, feeding a series of hydroelectric and storage impoundments including the South Colton Reservoir, Five Falls Reservoir, and Rainbow Falls Reservoir. These managed waters are punctuated by natural features like Morgan Rapids and the namesake Rainbow Falls. To the north, the terrain transitions into the highlands of French Hill and Whites Hill, while the West Branch Saint Regis River clips the corner near the settlement of Parishville.
