The Rio Grande forms a winding international boundary on this survey of the Texas borderlands, marking the divide between the United States and Mexico. The landscape is dominated by a series of deep drainage systems, including Ramsey Canyon, Cold Canyon, House Canyon, Osman Canyon, and Rattlesnake Canyon, which carve through the high ground towards the river. Much of the southern portion of the map is protected as part of the Amistad National Recreation Area, where the rugged terrain meets the water's edge.
