About this map

The Chowchilla River and Fresno River define the topography of this region along the Mariposa and Madera county line. During the early 1960s, the industrial character of the landscape was anchored by the granite operations near Knowles and Raymond, where the Raymond Granite Union H S served the local community. The mapping of an Old Railroad Grade and numerous mining sites, including the Jesse Belle Shaft, North Shaft, and Rosan Shaft, indicates a transition from active rail transport to modern trucking routes.
