Red Lake Flat and the northern reaches of the Prescott National Forest dominate this high-desert landscape in central Arizona. The area is defined by a network of drainage features and water management, ranging from Markham Wash to numerous livestock tanks such as Big Purcell Tank, Gosney Tank, and Greeley Tank. The topography rises toward the Juniper Mountains in the south and Squaw Peak in the west, cut by significant geological features like Purcell Canyon and Lion Canyon.
