Richmond and the surrounding East Bay shoreline appear here in a state of rapid post-war industrial and residential expansion. The dense urban grid of San Pablo and El Cerrito transitions into the steep terrain of the Berkeley Hills and San Pablo Ridge, where the massive San Pablo Reservoir dominates the eastern landscape. The coastal margins are defined by heavy maritime and industrial infrastructure, including the Inner Harbor Basin at Point Potrero and a large Oil Tank Farm near the settlement of Giant.
