The northern plains of Blaine County are defined by a series of drainage systems and coulees that cut through the high prairie landscape near the international border. Principal among these are the Corral Coulee and its North Fork, which dominate the southern portion of the sheet. The terrain here reflects a classic Western ranching and grazing environment, where seasonal water flow and elevation changes dictate the layout of rural routes like Sage Rd and Bagan Rd. These roads skirt the edges of deeper depressions such as Lyons Coulee and Sand Coulee, which provided natural landmarks for early land surveyors and homesteaders navigating the Public Land Survey System. The township and range lines of t37n r19e and t37n r20e frame this expansive landscape, showing how the grid was applied to the undulating Montana terrain.
