Sycan Marsh dominates the northern reaches of this high-desert landscape along the border of Lake and Klamath Counties. The Sycan River meanders through the central terrain, feeding into the marsh and passing landmarks such as the Sycan Fire Guard Station. This 1980s survey reflects a region primarily defined by natural resource management and infrastructure, evidenced by the Black Hills Guard Station in the southwest and an Old RR Grade that hints at former industrial access. The landscape is dotted with vital water sources, including the namesake Riverbed Butte Spring near Riverbed Butte, as well as Watkins Spring and Thicket Spring. Signs of local extraction appear in the form of a Cinder Pit and Quarry, while Steel Tower Trans Lines underscore the area's role in regional utility networks.
