Blue Mountain Hot Springs stands near the northern edge of this high-elevation terrain in Grant County, where the upper reaches of the John Day River flow through the Malheur National Forest. The landscape is dominated by the steep slopes of the Strawberry Range, much of which is protected within the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. This 2023 survey documents a remote mountain environment shaped by hydrologic features like Trout Farm Spring, Goose Spring, and Frog Lake. Notable clearings and alpine basins provide distinct landmarks for navigation and local history, including Little Meadows, Sunshine Flat, and the curiously named Dead Horse Basin. The network of drainages, from Snowshoe Creek to Bogue Gulch, illustrates the complex watershed feeding the river system.
