Rocky Lake lies at the heart of this high plains landscape in Chouteau County, Montana. The terrain is defined by the deep incisions of the Missouri Wild and Scenic River in the northwest, which gives way to the broad drainage systems of Smith Coulee and Barrel Spring. The topography transitions from the dramatic breaks near the river to the high plateau punctuated by the prominent summit of Round Top.
