Rocky Mountain and the surrounding timberlands of northern Aroostook County dominate this landscape, which is defined by a dense network of watercourses rather than human settlements. The Little Black River forms the primary drainage at the northern edge of the sheet, fed by several smaller tributaries including West Branch Chase Brook, Whitney Brook, and Chase Brook. The terrain is characterized by the quiet isolation of the Maine north woods, where the only sign of passage is found along the unpaved logging corridors of Dickey Rd and Irving Rd. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, Fox Pond and its namesake Fox Brook provide a distinct focal point among the hills, while the East Branch Pocwock Stream meanders through the western half of the territory.
