About this map

Glacial potholes and prairie wetlands define this rural landscape on the border of Rolette Co Pierce Co in the mid-1950s. The terrain is characterized by numerous small water bodies and marshlands, including larger basins such as Kishpaugh Lake and Wright Lake. This survey was conducted as part of the Department of the Interior program for the development of the Missouri River Basin, documenting a period when one-room schoolhouses like Dewey Sch No 2 and Spruce Hill Sch No 2 still served the scattered farmsteads of the North Dakota plains.
