The South Umpqua River snakes through the eastern portion of this landscape, anchoring a corridor of development that includes Roseburg, Edenbower, and Green. Away from the river, the terrain rises into the distinctive White Tail Ridge and Lookingglass Hill, separating the river valley from the pastoral expanse of Lookingglass Valley. This area is characterized by a high density of water management features, including Lammys Reservoir, Rieke Reservoir, and Hubbard Pond, which support the agricultural life in the outlying settlements of Melrose and Lookingglass. Genealogical interests are served by the presence of the Jones Family Cem near the river and the Lookingglass Cem to the west. The local transportation and ranching network is further detailed by several specialized airstrips, such as Napier Ranch Airport and the George Felt Airport.
