The Ruby Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape within the Humboldt National Forest, where the terrain is defined by dramatic peaks and deep glacial canyons. Glacial action is evident in the cluster of alpine lakes and cirques concentrated in the eastern portion of the sheet, including Lamoille Lake, Island Lake, and the Dollar Lakes. Significant summits such as Ruby Dome, Mt Gilbert, and Mt Fitzgerald tower over the drainage basins of Lamoille Canyon and Seitz Canyon. The map details a complex network of high-country trails and passes, notably Liberty Pass, which provides access between the various lake basins. This 2015 survey illustrates the preserved wilderness character of the region, focusing on the hydrologic connections of numerous mountain creeks like Kleckner Cr and Thomas Cr as they descend from the crest towards the valley floor.
